Mika Haka Foundation crew are Suicide Alert Helpers integrating LIFELINE’s ‘T.A.L.K.’ guidelines:


Tell – Ask – Listen – Keep safe


We use T.A.L.K. at events that encourage our rangatahi leaders to engage with other rangatahi, sharing the message of Aroha:

“You are loved.
You can talk to me.
I will listen.
I won't judge you,

And together we can both keep safe.”


We are NOT therapists — we are referral youth activists

We activate appropriate engagement for youth at risk,

thanks to the pivotal mental health support that LIFELINE provides:

MHF Emerging leaders and influencers always keep safe.
This includes risk from:

  • uninvited relationship attachments

  • violence

  • being able to say “no”

  • and refer person-at-risk onto the right people

If a life is in danger - then that is our priority. It's NOT the time to solve all problems, it is NOW the time to do something that keeps us from self-harm. Keeping safe from ‘means’ something that can cause a young person to harm themselves.

We do NOT promise secrecy - but we might need to talk to others to keep you safe. If we are not the right people to confide in, we must step aside as safety is vital. 

We understand that suicide is so complex that there is not just one solution. We understand that whatever happens with a young person MHF practice ‘T.A.L.K’ and ASIST Alert identifiers on, if they end up taking their life, they made their decision and we did all that we could for that young person. 

MHF are aware of safe places to go when a suicide occurs to one of our own. We recognise all achievements from our whānau and thank them for somehow improving a young person's quality of life.
