THE AROHA PROJECT

As a gay man, a Māori activist, an entertainer, an advocate for AIDS education, Homeless, Women, Youth, Native Cultures, Sustainability and holistic living – and a human being, Mika has always recognized human rights as a priority in his life.

THE AROHA PROJECT embodies all these values and brings them together in an annual series of Human Rights events.

In 2012/13 MHF endorsed the Gay marriage bill support video with an all-star celebrity cast at Mika Studios. MHF and the NZ AIDS Foundation continue a great working relationship! Alamo Bar support for South Side LGBT communities. Mika opens the Matariki Maori New Year welcome for GABA (Gay Akld Business Assoc.). Jay Tewake performed with Victoria Oruwari in supporting the Attitude Awards performance in our second year of supporting the awards.

Testimonials

“I was born a boy, really shy, and I never spoke out or told the truth until I was 22. I changed into being the woman I am today because of YOU and Lady Gaga. You gave me the strength to keep stepping forwards, being open, honest and straight up! It’s been three years with the love of my life now. I’m so happy, I honestly would never have thought finding a man who loves me for me would ever happen. Now at 25, I have my head on a dream that I’m chasing and a home that I can call my own. Thank you! Can I expect to see more of your TV shows hehe? I would so be keen to help produce or do makeup, anything to give back to you what you gave me.”
